Is Welcome Baby providing in-home visits now?
Yes. Welcome Baby is currently providing in-person support. Your Parent Coach can meet you at your home or another convenient location.
Is this program just for first-time parents?
Whether this is your first baby or you’re already a parent, Welcome Baby can support you during pregnancy and after you give birth. First-time parents, caregivers, fathers/partners, families with older children — all are welcome!
How often will I meet with my Parent Coach or Nurse?
If you’re eligible for service during pregnancy, you will be able to receive visits at these times:
- Once during your first or second trimester, then again in your third trimester, with a check-in call between visits
- After your baby is born (hospital visit)
- Within one week of coming home from the hospital
- When baby is 2-4 weeks
- When baby is 2 months
- When baby is 3-4 months
- When baby is 9 months
You can choose to meet at your home or any other convenient location.
How is this program free?
Welcome Baby is funded entirely by First 5 LA. If you live in Los Angeles County and plan to deliver at a Welcome Baby hospital, you will not be charged for any of the materials or services that you receive through this program. Your income, immigration status, or insurance won’t disqualify you!
Can I refer a friend?
Absolutely! Tell your pregnant friends and family to visit WelcomeBabySupport.org!
To enroll, they can call the program at the hospital where they plan to deliver.
Enrollment
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for Welcome Baby, you must:
- Plan to deliver at a Welcome Baby hospital
- Live in L.A. County
When can I enroll?
You can enroll during pregnancy* or at the hospital before being discharged. Once you leave the hospital, we can no longer enroll you.
*Note that if you are 38 weeks pregnant or more, or if you live outside the service area, you will be enrolled at the hospital once you deliver. Call the Welcome Baby program at your delivery hospital, and we’ll let you know what benefits you can receive.
I'm 38 weeks pregnant. Can I still receive services before I deliver?
Prenatal support is available for those who are less than 38 weeks pregnant. If you are 38 weeks pregnant or more, you will be enrolled at the hospital once you deliver.
I don't qualify for WIC. Can I enroll in the Welcome Baby program?
WIC and Welcome Baby have different eligibility requirements. To be eligible for Welcome Baby, you must:
- Plan to deliver at a Welcome Baby hospital
- Live in L.A. County
I participated in Welcome Baby before. Can I enroll again?
Sure! Many families find that the benefits of Welcome Baby are just as valuable the second or third time around. You still have to deliver at a Welcome Baby hospital and live in L.A. County. If that’s the case, we’d love to see you again!
If I choose to enroll in the program, do I need to remain in the program the entire time?
We hope you’ll continue to receive support the whole time you’re eligible (and we bet you’ll want to do that!), but Welcome Baby is totally voluntary. Nobody is required to enroll, and you’re free to stop participating at any time.
What if I do not qualify for the Welcome Baby program? Are there other home visitation programs I can qualify for?
If you do not qualify for the Welcome Baby program, or if Welcome Baby is not a right fit for you or your family, you can use the eDirectory tool to find other local home visiting programs. It’s an easy process! You just answer some questions and get a list of free services you may be eligible for, including home visiting and doula services across L.A. County.
